Winters in Colorado Springs bring plenty of sunshine, but temperatures can shift quickly. Pack these essentials and dress in layers for comfortable adventures:
Expect a few inches of snow and plenty of sunshine, along with average temperatures hovering around the 30s. It’s a festive month packed with holiday markets and local celebrations like Christmas at Flying W Ranch and the Bridge of Lights at Royal Gorge Bridge & Park.
In January, daytime temperatures often land in the low-40s, making it a little more comfortable for outdoor activities than December. Visitor levels tend to be lower this time of year, so it's a great time to visit some of our most popular attractions.
February mixes climbing temperatures with the occasional cold spell. Chillier weather sets the stage for live ice sculpting at the Cripple Creek Ice Festival and exploring the towering walls at Ice Castles. Celebrate the Lunar New Year with local events and festivals throughout the month, and be sure to catch Bighorn Sheep Day at Garden of the Gods.
Colorado Springs averages about 32.5 inches of snow each year. Snowfall is most common from December through March, although it can occasionally occur outside those months.
While winter temperatures can drop into the teens, especially from December through February, daily temps tend to average 40-50°F. And it feels even warmer with the Colorado sunshine. Average monthly lows during these months can get as low as 13°F to 18°F.
January is typically the coldest month in Colorado Springs, with average temperatures dipping into the teens and low 30s°F. December and February are also chilly, but January generally sees the lowest average temperatures of the year.
Colorado Springs is known for its dry climate and abundant sunshine. The area enjoys low humidity year-round, making it comfortable to explore during any season.
Snow in Colorado Springs often begins as early as October, though the first measurable snowfall typically occurs by early November. While fall is short-lived, winter tends to settle in quickly with colder, cloudier days becoming more common by late November.
