Coinciding with Where the Saint Lives, an exhibition currently on view at the Fine Arts Center, join us for our first Libation Lecture of 2022. La Virgen de Guadalupe, the patron saint of Mexico and goddess of the Americas, has generated reflection on the question of our divine and corporeal being for over 500 years. Learn why and how artists and writers continually invoke the image of La Virgen de Guadalupe in their work. Who is she? Why is she revered? Why is that she is depicted everywhere from churches, museums, and murals, to t-shirts, coffee mugs, and tattoos?
During the lecture, we'll also be playing Loter?a, a bingo-like game that uses culturally significant images and has been played throughout Mexico for hundreds of years. You might even win a prize!
