Event Summary
Fruit Culture in Colorado and the McAllister’s Role in its Development
The McAllisters took up the banner for fruit culture in Colorado by building an experimental garden on the grounds of the McAllister House and contributing to a book published by William Pabor. In this talk, Mr. Metzger will describe the ways in which the McAllister family, and other Southern Colorado fruit producers, contributed to an apple economy that was highly successful throughout the state of Colorado and is still in existence today. It is not a coincidence that McAllister was involved in this experimentation because he was closely associated with the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad which was the vehicle that contributed greatly to the distribution of fruit trees to Southern and Southwestern Colorado.
