Event Summary
Phil Vallejo, a Colorado Springs native born 1959 is a painter, sculptor, and mural artist who was self taught until high school when he studied under Bill Burgess at Wasson, and Floyd Tunson at Palmer 1974–1977. He then studied at Pikes Peak Community College under Merr Shearn. Along with Dave Roberts, he was an early participant in the Pueblo Levee Mural Project. He then attended USC Pueblo under Carl Jenson and Nick Latka. There, in 1988, he created “Three-Fold Education” a steel plate paper airplane sculpture permanent exhibition on the university campus thanks to the Kelly-Ducy Foundation. The sculpture is registered with the Smithsonian American Art Museum list of outdoor sculptures. He has many works in private collections throughout the U.S. and Mexico. “I have exhibited at galleries in Denver, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo, won some awards and experienced several “15 minutes of fame” throughout my journey, trying to be creative.”
Phillip “Nick” Vallejo, a Colorado native born 1978, is a self-taught multi media mark maker. By age 13, he was spending summers with his dad in Colorado, finding inspiration at the studio. The rest of the year he spent with his mom in Gresham Oregon where he did graffiti and hung out with tattoo artists. Recently, he’s been inspired doing dynamic works on canvas. This is his first show in a gallery setting.
Robbie Blum hails from Southern CA but has called Colorado home since the mid 90s. His artistic journey has been a tumultuous one filled with stops and starts, failures and successes. Using the concept of apophenia, he builds his pieces layer by layer until a theme, or figurative element reveals itself. Themes related of mental health, permeate his works and his love of the figure is evident in most all of his pieces.
