Event Summary
Deb Komitor
When cataracts took over and my eyes were failing you kept me going with little pen and ink drawings of remembered trees. When my hands got stiff and swollen and I couldn’t hold a brush you waited for me. You fed me ideas and plans for this show. Though I was fearful that you had left me forever, we found our way back together like old friends catching up over tea. You showed me the many forms that you Art, take on. It’s not just something created in the studio. It’s in my garden, in my baking, in my relationships, in my thoughts, interactions and in seeing the beauty of each season. Art, you are in everything everywhere. I wasn’t sure how to move forward but we experimented together. Some things worked some things didn’t. It took me awhile to find myself again. And when I did, I was right where I had left me, with you Art, by my side. And so, we begin again…
Lisa Fabiano
For the work in this series, I painted over a collection of eco-friendly papers, cutting and arranging them into collages, merging modern abstraction with some graphic elements of Southwestern tribal weaving, some aspects of traditional Pennsylvania quilt-making, and some principles of Japanese design. I describe these collages as constructed paintings, connecting diverse cultures across time, through abstraction in creative expression.
Maggie Elligott
The small works in Wings and Petals: From Grief to Grace invite viewers to closely explore the delicate details and emotions within each piece, fostering quiet contemplation and personal connection. These collages, like fragments of thought, evoke layered meanings of loss, transformation, and life's fragility. Infused with my whimsical spirit, the work encourages not just interaction with the art, but also a deeper engagement with personal emotions, memories, and experiences, creating a shared journey from grief to grace.
Sophia Hanna
Sophia creates figurative oil paintings on homemade wood panels, as well as smaller watercolors, both in unconventional shapes. She often focuses on themes of body image, mental illness, growing pains, chronic illness, and sexuality. Her paintings are easily recognizable and personal, usually featuring multiple versions of herself in the nude, overlapping to create engaging visual illusions.
