Colorado Springs Western Street Breakfast
Wake up early and bring your appetite! It’s time for one of Colorado Springs’ most beloved traditions.
Every June, Downtown Colorado Springs wakes up with the sizzle of pancakes and the twang of live music during the Western Street Breakfast. This annual event transforms the city into a lively celebration honoring local military families and sets the stage for the NFR Open at the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo.

And it’s all served up with smiles by volunteers from the U.S. Army and Air Force.
Enjoy Live Music & Dance Performances
Enjoy live music from two standout bands: the legendary Flying W Wranglers, known for their Western harmonies and humor, and Exit West, whose country-rock sound keeps the energy high. You’ll also hear performances from the talented students of the Colorado Springs Conservatory.
Watch the Sweetwater Native American Dancers captivate the crowd with traditional dances and vibrant regalia. And, keep an eye out for appearances by the Girl of the West and her Aide!
The Pikes Peak Range Riders and Rangerettes ride off at 8 a.m., officially beginning their week-long Peak Ride. Started in 1949, the Peak Ride takes the riders through the back-country near Colorado Springs and the end of the ride marks the beginning of the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo.
Let the Kids Loose at the Kids Corral
The Kids Corral is packed with hands-on fun, including a petting zoo from Wishing Star Farm, roping demos, a trick roper and a gunslinger show. Kids can practice their rope tricks, meet friendly animals and learn the ways of the Wild West from local experts.
Enter the Lil’ Cowboys & Cowgirls Roundup Costume Contest
Dress your little ones in their best Western wear for the 78th Annual Lil’ Cowboys & Cowgirls Roundup. Bandanas, chaps and cowboy hats are encouraged! Winners will earn a chance to ride on the Western Spirit float during the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Parade.
History
The Western Street Breakfast has been a beloved Colorado Springs tradition since 1936, when just a few dozen folks working the rodeo gathered around a chuckwagon outside Joe Reich’s Swiss Chalet. In 1949, the newly formed Pikes Peak Range Riders chose the breakfast as the launch point for their future rides. By 1960, the event had grown enough to be officially hosted by Sertoma, who carried the torch for over 50 years. When the Pikes Peak Range Riders took the reins in 2016, they continued the tradition with the same commitment to community, Western pride, and support for military families.
