Visiting Author Series: Brenda Miller

The Visiting Author Series welcomes seven-time Pushcart Prize recipient Brenda Miller to UCCS for a public reading and book signing. Miller is the author of seven collections, most recently Love You, Bye: A Daughter's Journey in Essays and Poems (Skinner House Books, 2026) and A Braided Heart: Essays on Writing and Form (University of Michigan Press, 2021).

Her collaborative collection with Julie Marie Wade, Telephone: Essays in Two Voices, won the Cleveland State Poetry Center Award, and her chapbook The Daughters of Elderly Women received the 2020 Floating Bridge Press Chapbook Award. She is co-author of Tell It Slant: Creating, Refining, and Publishing Creative Nonfiction, a widely used craft text now in its third edition, and The Pen and the Bell: Mindful Writing in a Busy World.

Across essay, poem, and collaboration, Miller's work pays close attention to form and to how the shape of a piece can carry its meaning. She is Professor Emerita at Western Washington University, where she taught creative writing for 25 years.
