Event Summary
This is a unique dual commemoration inviting our Colorado community to reflect on our shared past and imagine our collective future. Colorado’s 150th, celebrated alongside the United States’ semiquincentennial in 2026, highlights the state’s rich history, cultural diversity, and ongoing contributions to the nation.
Four UCCS faculty experts will lead engaging roundtable conversations exploring the people, stories, and forces that have shaped Colorado and the nation. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss themes connected to heritage, democracy, place-making, and the evolving identity of our state within the broader American narrative. These statewide commemorations encourage communities to honor the fullness of Colorado’s shared history while envisioning a more inclusive and vibrant future.
All students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to participate in this interactive, interdisciplinary conversation as we celebrate these landmark anniversaries together. See below for our faculty experts’ topics!
All attendees can receive a complimentary copy of The Essential Colorado Constitution, the first-ever pocket-sized edition in Colorado’s history, courtesy of the Center for the Study of Government and the Individual (CSGI) and edited by our speaker Dr. Josh Vandiver.
Presenters:
Dr. Jennifer Kling, Associate Professor of Philosophy
Dr. John Harner, Professor of Geography and Environmental Studies
Dr. Paul Harvey, Distinguished Professor of History
Dr. Josh Vandiver, Assistant Professor of Political Science
