Event Summary
Researching historical fiction can be fun—and not just because it gives you an excuse to read those fascinating tomes you’ve stockpiled! Field trips, living history enactments, documentaries, tours, archives, and museums add value and authenticity. But how do you separate fact from fiction? Which sources can you trust? How is AI useful or detrimental? When does research interfere with writing? We’ll discuss these questions, along with genre challenges, such as how to handle historical attitudes and practices that don’t align with contemporary values. You’ll leave this workshop equipped to conduct effective research while staying focused on your story.
