Event Summary
Immerse yourself in two unforgettable cinematic experiences that explore humanity’s relationship with the world around us—from the fragility of our ecosystems to the absurdity of our own making.
Radiant Blue Marble: Moving Pictures for a Living Planet is an inspiring short-film showcase featuring visionary artists and filmmakers from around the world. Presented alongside GOCA’s exhibition Simulacra, this vibrant program brings together five dynamic blocks of films that reveal the intricate connections between people, technology, and the natural world. From breathtaking visual journeys to powerful environmental stories, these films invite audiences to see our planet with fresh eyes and imagine new possibilities for its future.
This program is a collaboration between the UCCS Galleries of Contemporary Art (GOCA) and University of Colorado Boulder’s NEST Studio for the Arts (Nature, Environment, Science, & Technology) to spark conversation, creativity, and connection across generations. Our presenting partners are Independent Film Society of Colorado, Rocky Mountain Women’s Film, Youth Documentary Academy. CU Boulder Public and Community-Engaged Scholarship is a partner and sponsor through the Interdisciplinary Arts Faculty Fellowship.
Complimentary pizza lunch is included with the Radiant Blue Marble program, and attendees can explore GOCA's Simulacra exhibition between screenings.
Next, experience Stanley Kubrick’s legendary Dr. Strangelove (1964), the razor-sharp Cold War satire that remains as hilarious, unsettling, and relevant today as when it first premiered. Known for its unforgettable performances and darkly comedic take on nuclear politics, the film also features dramatic aerial sequences filmed over Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. Presented by the Ent Center for the Arts and Denver Film as part of the statewide CO150 Film Festival.
Make a day of it! Purchase tickets to both events for a special discounted price of just $20, and enjoy a thought-provoking journey from environmental storytelling to Kubrick's iconic satire. Connect with fellow film lovers, explore GOCA’s Simulacra exhibition, and experience a day of cinema, conversation, and community centered on our shared planet and collective future.
