Event Summary
Our August exhibit in the main gallery is going to be a special one! Many of you know Chris Alvarez and have loved his art for years. This show is focused on the musical part of this life and his friends whom he has painted portraits of. Some of his friends who are featured in his work will also be playing live. If you are a music lover, or friend of Chris's definitely plan on stopping by for the opening. It's going to be such a fun, special night!
About the Exhibit:
The local music community has become a wellspring of spiritual support, helping me stay grounded during some difficult times. As I’ve started learning to play the guitar, I’ve been warmly embraced by this collective of musicians and performers. Among these artists of stage and sound, I’ve found a sense of belonging. This collection of paintings is my way of honoring them—for enriching my life and offering me a place to call home.
About the Artist:
Chris Alvarez was raised in the enchanting town of Silver City, New Mexico, where the alpine forests and desert landscape sparked his artistic vision in the region’s unique, magical light. In 1988, he relocated to Colorado while serving in the United States Army. A decade later, in 1998, he chose to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a professional artist.
Known throughout the region for his romantic interpretations of everyday scenes, Chris brings a soulful touch to the seemingly ordinary. In 2010, he founded The Alvarez Art School, where he continues to teach drawing and painting. Building on that foundation, he expanded his vision in 2019 by opening the Alvarez Gallery Art School in downtown Colorado Springs..
Beyond the studio, Chris is a man of many passions—he enjoys juggling, collecting vinyl records, playing guitar, birdwatching, and bouldering. He has also created a holistic art program that emphasizes not just technical skill in seeing, drawing, and painting, but also a deeper philosophical exploration into what it means to be an artist and the process of art-making.
