Event Summary
James Walsh is a Political Science Professor at the University of Colorado Denver, where he has taught for the past 28 years. His decades of research into the history of Irish immigrants in 19th century Leadville led to the construction of the Leadville Irish Memorial, unveiled in 2023. Walsh is also founder of the Romero Theater Troupe, a community theater in Denver that has kept alive stories of workers in American history for the past 20 years, and the Colorado Labor Education Collaborative, a partnership between students, scholars, workers, and organizers to expand access to Labor Education.
In this talk, Walsh will highlight the important history of the Leadville Irish and their struggle for workers' rights in 10th century Leadville; and how this research led to the construction of the Leadville Irish Memorial.
