Event Summary
All the gods have horses, but I have a restless heart, a shabby savings account, a bum hip, a tv with bad reception, and not enough to satiate the ache inside. It’s the story of not getting what you wanted. Of coveting everything your neighbor has. The grass is indeed greener somewhere else. This is just true. How to rumble with that kind of quotidian heartbreak? The gods want to speak to us through all our greed and jealousy and petty pride and everyday anguish, but they are up so high on majestic horses. What do the worms have to say? I am asking, what remains and persists? Oh what an extravagance of riches can be made from the ruins of everything we wanted but didn’t get. This interdisciplinary installation performs the rites and rituals of everything that remains after the party ends and all the gods have gone home riding their majestic steeds. It’s the quiet contemplative beauty of putting all the washed cups away, of sweeping the confetti up, of reading the signs in the spilled dregs of wine. Oh what riotous beauty can be made with the ruins! Oh what gratitude, we the damned, let flow from our eyes like tears. All the gods have horses, but we have weeping in the bathroom with a kind stranger at a bar too late at night. Amen.
