Event Summary
The only three airworthy WWII Curtiss SB2C Helldivers in the world will be on the ground at the National Museum of WWII Aviation and in the skies over the Pikes Peak Region August 20. It’s history in the making, and you can join in! Helldivers from Fagen Fighters WWII Museum in Minnesota and the Commemorative Air Force in Texas will join forces with the SB2C-1 Helldiver from the collection at the National Museum of WWII Aviation. August 20 will be devoted, weather permitting, to flights of the three warbirds. For this event, the museum will open at 5:30 a.m. for photos and close at sunset.
The B-25 “In the Mood” from the National Museum of WWII Aviation will be deployed as camera ship, piloted by Bill and Scott Klaers. The Klaers flew the Mitchell in that capacity most recently for the international production of “History’s Greatest Aircraft” and in the past for many similar projects.
Fagen Fighters’ Helldiver is scheduled to depart on August 21, though the Commemorative Air Force Helldiver will remain in Colorado Springs longer, and possibly make public flights available.
