AM: U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center
PM: Explore Downtown Colorado Springs
PM: U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum
It’s only right for Day 1 to be your Olympic City USA day. Start at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center. This flagship training center has been around for decades, with tens of thousands of Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls training there every year. When you embark on a tour, you’ll learn about how athletes train, nourish their bodies and participate in programs to keep them in prime condition for competition and qualifying events. Sometimes you’ll even spot current athletes in training as you walk around!
After the training center, explore Downtown Colorado Springs – you can even spot the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee headquarters on Tejon Street. Find some places to eat, shop and explore before you head to the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum. This museum is one of the most accessible and interactive in the world. It’s universally designed for all to enjoy, regardless of any mobility, visual, hearing or sensory impairments. You’ll be impressed by the engaging exhibits and inspired by the stories of the Games – from Ancient Greece all the way until the present-day Games.
Pro tip: You can get a Podium Package to do both of these activities at a discounted rate!
AM: Ride the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail
PM: Play at Topgolf
It’s Day 2, so it’s time to get into the mind of an athlete. A favorite place for runners and cyclists to train is the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail – but don’t worry, it’s great for athletes of all levels. The trail runs 17 miles, all the way from the U.S. Air Force Academy down to the El Pomar Youth Sports Complex. You can rent bikes and ride the trail for as long as you’d like. It passes through great stopping points like Goose Gossage Park, Popcycle Bridge, Monument Valley Park and America the Beautiful Park. Enjoy stunning views and great riding.
After getting some rest from your morning ride, head to Topgolf! Compete with your friends and family or keep it more casual. You can catch your favorite games, too, with the 200+ HDTVs. The all-weather bays allow for year-round fun – plus an on-site bar and restaurant.
AM: Conquer the Manitou Incline
PM: Catch a match at Weidner Field or Robson Arena
Hopefully you didn’t have too much fun at Topgolf because this morning’s activity of choice is the Manitou Incline (but we have plenty of alternative hiking trails if this one is too intense for your liking). Prepare accordingly, because the Manitou Incline is not easy. It’s a notorious spot for athletes like Apolo Ohno to train and a true challenge to conquer. Drink plenty of water, make sure you’re acclimated to the altitude and take it slow and steady. This hike features 2,768 steps and 2,000-foot elevation gain in less than a mile. You can get back to your car or the shuttle by hiking down the last 3.5 miles of Barr Trail.
After your heart-pounding workout, catch a Switchbacks soccer match at Weidner Field or a Colorado College Tigers hockey game at Robson Arena. Depending on the time of the year, you might be able to swing both during your visit! Be sure to check schedules and get tickets ahead of time.
AM: Get competitive at Sherwood Showdown
PM: Get inspired at the World Figure Skating Museum and Hall of Fame
PM: Experience the history and excitement of the Penrose Heritage Museum
Start the day playing at Sherwood Showdown and enjoy one of the more unique sporting experiences out there – archery dodgeball. We’ll try to explain it here, but the best way to understand is to do it yourself. This sport combines the strategy of dodgeball with the skill and precision of archery. With a big enough group, you can book the facility for your own private game. Otherwise, you can combine with other groups. The playing field can accommodate 4-20 players, ages 13+ recommended. Book in advance and reserve your spot!
Later in the day check out the World Figure Skating Museum and Hall of Fame. This hidden gem includes two floors of historical exhibits and memorabilia depicting the evolution of the sport. It’s located right near The Broadmoor and open Tuesday through Friday. Another great stop at The Broadmoor is the Penrose Heritage Museum that celebrates the second-oldest road race in the U.S., the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
