Overview
Our Red Barn Ranch is on 40 acres of rolling prairie. We are located 2 miles south of the town of Calhan, northeast of Colorado Springs. We are about two miles from The Paint Mine Interpretive Park. We are a family-oriented farm and welcome all.
We offer hands-on interaction with our herd of 25 Alpacas, 2 llamas, 3 angora goats, barn kittens, pet chickens and even a pet turkey! We also have Dorper Sheep, Berkshire Pigs, and a couple of ponies! You get to meet everybody.
We also raise Colorado Mountain Dogs. They protect all the animals from predators. They have full reign of the property, so please leave your pets at home.
You will learn about the history of Alpacas and Angora Goats and what we do with their fleece.
We have a Fancy Fiber Farm Stand, where guests can experience and shop for the luxurious finished products. Everything from roving (cleaned fiber ready to spin or felt with) yarn, socks, hats, gloves, luxurious sweaters and shawls. Alpaca fiber insulates better than sheep’s wool, and it does NOT itch, most people.
We have been raising and caring for Alpacas for over 18 years. And have had over 100 crias (baby alpacas) born on our ranch.
We have free range chickens, that make every day an easter egg hunt! Sometimes the dogs beat us to the eggs!
We never live a dull moment. We welcome you to come learn and experience the farm/ranch way of life, via agritourism.
Our Red Barn Ranch is open to the public Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. And weekdays by appointment. We welcome group tours, such as scouts, home schoolers, FHA, 4-H, civic groups, and private groups. We are committed to educating the public on why ranching and agriculture are so important to everybody’s life.
