New Santa Fe Regional Trail
**TRAIL CLOSURE NOTICE**
A small section of the New Santa Fe Trail on the Academy will close intermittently beginning late January 2018 through spring 2019 for construction of a roadway bridge that passes over the trail.
Most closures will last only one day; however, a three-week closure is scheduled for the beginning of March and again in October.
All closures will be posted on the Academy’s website, https://www.usafa.edu/visitors/hiking-biking-trails/.
The New Santa Fe Regional Trail provides a scenic journey along the front range. The trail follows a portion of the abandoned Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe railroad line. The trail is popular among hikers, families and cyclists. Besides taking in the amazing views, one will also see wildlife, interesting geological features and interpretive signs.

The 14 mile portion of the trail follows the abandoned Atkinson, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad right-of-way. The gravel surfaced regional trail generally follows a straight and level course for the first 6.5 miles beginning at Palmer Lake. An easement agreement by the U.S. Air Force Academy provides a crucial 6.9 mile stretch of this trail. Trail users must not go off the six-foot wide trail surface as it passes through the Academy. Bicyclists must wear helmets.
