Superpower Dogs Film at USAFA Planetarium

Come, sit, stay! Join the Superpower Dogs Pack!

Join an immersive adventure to experience the life‐saving superpowers and extraordinary bravery of some of the world’s most amazing dogs. In this inspiring true story, our best friends are also real‐life superheroes. Journey around the globe to meet remarkable dogs who save lives and discover the powerful bond they share with their human partners.

Follow ‘Halo’, a rookie puppy training to join one of the most elite disaster response teams in America. Meet ‘Henry’, an avalanche rescue expert in the mountains of British Columbia, ‘Reef’, a Newfoundland lifeguard with the Italian coastguard, ‘Ricochet’, a Californian surf legend helping people with special needs, and the Bloodhound brothers, ‘Tipper and Tony’, who are leading the fight to save endangered species in Africa. As we discover the incredible abilities of dogs and the astonishing science behind their superpowers, we’ll never look at our best friends the same way again!

Superpower Dogs arrived at our Planetarium on Friday, November 29, with excellent reviews from our guests at the two premiere shows. We were joined by Dr. Maria Gray and Angel, her 150 lb. Newfoundland. They trained intensively for nearly five years with the SICS (the Squola Italiana Cani Salvataggio) dogs who are featured in the movie and Angel is the ONLY American certified SICS dog!

Dr. Gray is the founder of The American Academy of Canine Water Rescue, whose mission is to help eliminate unintentional drowning deaths by providing education to communities and organizations throughout the USA. They facilitate local law enforcement and military organizations, such as the U.S. Coast Guard, in conducting water rescues.

Our other guests were Laurel Prudhomme and Labrador retriever, Ludwig, who is training to be a service dog with Canine Companions for Independence, a nonprofit organization that provides assistance dogs free of charge to adults, children and veterans with disabilities. Ludwig enjoyed meeting all of the children at this event and happily posed for photographs throughout the morning.

Complimentary holiday showings of Superpower Dogs will continue at 3 p.m. on December 6, 13 and 20, and at 10 a.m. on December 23, 24, 26, 27 and 30. In January, this show will be incorporated into our regular, Monday-Friday schedule of public shows.
