Pikes Peak Philharmonic presents ‘Animal Instincts’

This concert features the dramatic and surprising Symphony #2 by Borodin, as well as the lyrical and exotic Goossens oboe concerto, performed by local young artist Meera Bhatia.

The orchestra will also perform Strauss’ beloved “Die Fledermaus” and Sibelius’ less familiar but equally beautiful “Swan of Tuonela," both of which address our seasonal theme of  “Animal Instincts." In addition, the program includes another Sibelius work, “Valse Triste,” as well as the brilliantly evocative “Night on Bald Mountain” by Mussorgsky.

To increase your appreciation of this program, a pre-concert lecture by the conductor will begin at 2:15 p.m.

The Pikes Peak Philharmonic has been performing great music in Colorado Springs for more than 50 years. They are a community orchestra made up of people like you, whose love of music brings them together to create a collage greater than the sum of its parts. They offer members a fulfilling and inexpensive way to continue performing and learning. To the community, they offer a low-cost entry into symphonic music and an adventurous listening experience.
