Oil studies and fantasies in black and white.
The MAC is proud to welcome Houston Texas based artist Erik Martinez to the Slam and Hallway Galleries in November! Martinez' work ranges from whimsical to evocative, and is executed with a deft touch and rich eye for detail.
"I've always been a visual person. I started drawing as early as 2 or 3, and haven't really stopped since. Creativity came naturally, and drawing allowed me to funnel this strength directly into surface. If people are "meant" for things in this life, then surely I'm meant to create. I've spent years learning how to handle different mediums and art styles, but I have always come back around to black and white art. The purity and simplicity of it always grabs me.
I know colors are beautiful, but there is something so striking about good B&W imagery. So I couldn't think of a better focus for my first solo art exhibit. My goal with these images is not only to give you something interesting to look at, but to allow you to apply your own narrative to them. Find the plot and decide what you take away from each one. I hope everyone walks away with at least a slightly different experience as the person behind them." --Erik Martinez
