Summertime Social Distancing Adventures

In Colorado Springs, fresh air and wide-open spaces have always been our strong suit. You could say we were made for safe social distancing.

With a wide array of outdoor activities, parks, attractions, trails and open spaces, adventure abounds around the Pikes Peak region where you can get out and spread out. We’ve compiled a list of our favorite regional activities that can be enjoyed this summer at a safe and responsible distance. Please note that the list of what’s open changes daily, so check back often on our Regional Attractions Update page.

Explore our Hiking & Biking Trails

The Pikes Peak region is a hiking and biking enthusiast’s dream come true. With hundreds of trails spanning three counties, there’s no shortage of wilderness to explore at a safe distance. Follow our simple tips and tricks to practicing safe social distancing in the great outdoors to ensure you have the best experience out on the trails.

Here are some of our favorite less-traveled trails:

Kissing Camels Golf Course

Get 18 Holes In

Don't worry golfers, you don't have to sacrifice your handicap during the pandemic. With the open-air, spacious fairways and one-rider-per-cart rule, golfing is a great social distancing activity that lets you tee-off responsibly and safely. Click here for a list of our favorite places to hit the links. Mix it up with a little disc golf at one of our great courses. Do you prefer your golf with a few obstacles like windmills and dinosaur statues? Check out Adventure Mini Golf.

Take a Scenic Drive

There’s an abundance of gorgeous views throughout the region to enjoy. Roll down the windows and crank your favorite tunes while you enjoy breathtaking scenery from the safety of your own vehicle. Drive the stunning winding pass to Woodland Park, brave the steep hogbacks of Skyline Drive, navigate switchbacks to the summit Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain and more. For a list of our favorite local drives and pit stops along the way, check out our Scenic Drives Blog.

Try your Balance on a Stand-Up Paddle Board

Warmer weather calls for a much-needed reprieve on one of our crystal-clear reservoirs or lakes. Hop on a paddleboard and glide across the water solo or test your balance at a SUP yoga class, like one with Dragon Fly Paddle yoga.

Tour Art on the Streets

Take a self-guided art tour through the streets of downtown Colorado Springs and peruse local artwork in our fresh, Rocky Mountain air. Download the free GPS-based app Otocast via iTunes or Google Play to hear commentary from the artists themselves. Along your route, you’ll find a variety of restaurants offering take-out, patio and limited inside seating.

Walk on the Wild Side

Take a tour of the Colorado Wolf & Wildlife Center. Experience the majesty of these gorgeous canines in tours limited to no more than 10 people per group. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo will be opening back up soon with staggered entrances and limited hours.

Get Your Adrenaline Pumping

Many of our outdoor adventure outfitters are doing their part to ensure guests can enjoy the great outdoors and chase a little adrenaline safely with extra sanitation and social distancing procedures. Click on the different businesses below for booking information and to read about what measures they’re taking to give guests safe adventures:

Tackle Some Rapids

Climb aboard a raft and set sail for an adventure down the Arkansas River. Many of our region’s whitewater rafting outfitters are taking reservations with extra safety guidelines and sanitation procedures in place. Enjoy an adventure ranging from extreme whitewater rafting to calm family floats. Be sure to check individual outfitters for who is open.

NOT ALL HEROES WEAR CAPES - SOME WEAR MASKS

Though we don't require masks, we ask that you please bring along one per person to wear when interacting with the businesses that do require them, when indoors where others are congregating or when outdoors in crowded spaces. For more information, please visit our COVID-19 updates page.

We look forward to safely welcoming you to Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak region where the adventure is you!
