Recipe: Apple Raisin Baked French Toast

A tasty breakfast treat, recipe courtesy of Avenue Hotel Bed & Breakfast.


  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 3 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 loaf sourdough bread
  • 8 eggs
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • ½ cup raisins


Melt better, add brown sugar and water. Add apples, simmer just until tender. Pour mixture in a 9 x 13 pan to cool. Cut bread into 9 pieces. Beat eggs; add milk and vanilla. Sprinkle raisins over apples. Coat each slice of bread with milk and egg mixture and place on top of the apples. Pour remaining mild mixture over bread. Cover and refrigerate. Bake at 350 for 40 minutes.
