Colorado Springs Cool Science Festival
October 15-22, 2011
Expanded to a weeklong celebration of all things science in the Pikes Peak region, the Colorado Springs Cool Science Festival brings together a variety of community organizations hosting a plethora of engaging events to stimulate the inquisitive mind and appreciate the area’s scientific and technological prowess.
The Festival opens with the Cool Science Carnival Day at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on Saturday, October 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Hands-on activities, open laboratories, student research presentations and science demonstrations are designed to inspire fascination of the world around us in kids of all ages.
Throughout the week, other events will include a smart-phone-based SCVNGR Hunt, a Science Pub Crawl, Family Day at the Western Museum of Mining and Industry, a Science of Beer Brewing tour at Bristol Brewing Company, a look at local food production at Venetucci Farm through the Pikes Peak Community Foundation, a nature hike in Garden of the Gods and evening lectures. One of the Festival’s culminating events will be a Rubik’s Cube competition in which student teams will vie to be the fastest at solving a set of 25 Rubik’s Cubes on Saturday, October 22.
