The Pikes Peak Cycling Hill Climb, presented by The Broadmoor and the Anschutz Foundation, is a challenge cycling event for all comers! It includes a USA Cycling sanctioned bicycle race and an open fun ride that ascends to the summit of Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain. The Pikes Peak Highway will delay opening to the Summit until 9am. The North Slope Recreation Area will open at 7:30am.
The route covers 12.42 miles, with an elevation gain of 4,725 feet, an average grade of 7%, through 156 turns, to conclude at the 14,115 foot summit. All participants in the USA Cycling Hill Climb National Championships must be annual members of USAC to compete. For more information or to register go to www.usacHillClimbNationals.org.
If competitive racing is not your thing, the Broadmoor Pikes Peak Cycling Hill Climb Gran Fondo will be taking place at the same time as the race. The community fun ride will use the same start line but has three different distances to choose from. Riders can pick the distance that best fits their ability level. Riders as young as four years old have participated in the gran fondo. Clocks will be used for the fun ride so that you can time yourself to your finish line. Medals will be awarded to the top riders in each of the distances. Summiteer Medals are awarded to all riders that reach the top of the mountain.
